On our latest American Amnion Association Podcast, we welcomed back our Board Chair & President Jerry Pascucci, MBA, to share exciting updates on a pivotal new study with Evologics America EvoPatch, an amniotic graft designed for surgical applications.

For years, clinicians have seen that amnion DOES work — across wound care, ocular health and surgery — but one question has remained: WHY does it work?

Jerry and his team are leading a landmark large-animal study in gastrointestinal surgery designed to answer that very question. The goals are clear:

✅ Understand what amnion is doing at a cellular level
✅ Explore its role in preventing anastomotic leaks — a complication that can cost hospitals $200,000+ per event and drastically impact patient survival
✅ Build the rigorous, peer-reviewed evidence needed for mass adoption

With early data already showing 72-hour closure in mice models and human leak rates reduced by nearly 60–80%, this next large animal phase could reshape the standard of care in colorectal surgery and beyond.

At AaA, we believe these studies don’t just advance one product — they set a precedent for the entire birth tissue field, proving the value of amniotic grafts in modern medicine.
