The American Amnion Association stands with the AATB in their commitment to advancing safe, effective, and innovative uses of birth tissue in medicine.
As CMS considers changes to reimbursement under the OPPS proposed rule, one fact is clear:
Amniotic grafts and other birth tissue–derived skin substitutes are not luxuries — they are life-saving and life-enhancing medicine. They close chronic wounds, protect against infection, prevent amputations and restore quality of life for patients across the country.
We recognize the challenge CMS faces in balancing rising Medicare costs with sustainability. But cost control cannot come at the expense of patient care, innovation, or access.
Our position is simple:
✔️ Support responsible fiscal policy.
✔️ Ensure fair, equitable reimbursement.
✔️ Protect patient access to amniotic and other birth tissue–derived grafts.
✔️ Sustain innovation that pushes medicine forward.
If reimbursement rates fail to reflect the real costs of processing and delivering these advanced grafts, patients WILL suffer — particularly in underserved communities, where access is already at risk.
This is not about protecting margins, it’s about protecting people. As the AATB has made clear, policies must put patients over profits, ensuring that these life-saving innovations remain available to every demographic that needs them.
